We ship all types of special cargo

Oversized and overweight cargo is characterised by exceeding the proportions and capabilities of a single standard container. Whether you are shipping a 350-ton tugboat, a 46-metre crane arm, or a 17-metre industrial propeller — we have the expertise and equipment to deliver. We provide tailored, efficient solutions for In Gauge, Out of Gauge, and Break Bulk cargo.

In Gauge Cargo
In Gauge Cargo

Cargo that fits within the container footprint

In Gauge (IG) cargo refers to shipments whose dimensions are smaller than or equal to those of the flat rack or open top container — meaning special equipment is required, but the cargo does not displace additional vessel slots.

Booking In Gauge cargo with SIYA SHIPLINE PVT LTD is quick and straightforward. You can get a rate and confirm your booking within minutes through our online platform.

Examples of In Gauge shipments:
  • Large machinery or equipment lowered into an open top container
  • Mature trees and oversized plant cargo in open tops
  • Generator sets and transformers within container height limits
  • Stone blocks, granite slabs, and heavy industrial components
Out of Gauge Cargo
Out of Gauge Cargo

Cargo that exceeds standard container dimensions

Out of Gauge (OOG) cargo refers to shipments whose dimensions exceed the flat rack or open top container in length, width, or height — but can still be unitised on containers. These shipments require precise pre-planning, accurate declarations, and professional securing to ensure safe, compliant transport.

Our OOG specialists coordinate with ports, terminals, and vessel planners to design the safest and most cost-effective route for your oversized cargo.

Examples of Out of Gauge shipments:
  • Ship propellers and large marine components
  • Wind turbine blades, nacelles, and tower sections
  • Industrial flanges and large-diameter pipe sections
  • Agricultural tractors and large construction equipment
Break Bulk Cargo
Break Bulk Cargo

Cargo too large even for flat rack containers

Break Bulk (BB) cargo vastly exceeds the size and/or weight of a standard container. It is handled as non-unitised cargo and is typically placed on a bed of flat racks with a large number of lashing points, requiring bespoke engineering, structural analysis, and specialist supervision at every stage.

SIYA SHIPLINE PVT LTD's break bulk team manages the complete chain — from port survey and loading supervision, through sea fastening engineering, to final delivery coordination at the destination.

Examples of Break Bulk shipments:
  • Luxury yachts and large sailing vessels
  • Crane masts, gantry structures, and steel beams
  • Railway carriages and locomotive components
  • Complete industrial plant modules and process equipment

Know your cargo — In Gauge or Out of Gauge?

Use this reference table to determine whether your cargo requires In Gauge or Out of Gauge handling before booking. Accurate pre-declaration avoids costly operational delays.

  • If dimensions are equal to or smaller than listed values → In Gauge
  • If dimensions exceed any column → Out of Gauge
  • For 40'FR: if width ≤220 cm and length ≤1190 cm, considered In Gauge

Understanding Out of Gauge Cargo

Out of Gauge cargo requires special and delicate handling. In order to transport your OOG cargo safely, it is essential to provide a full and accurate declaration — covering not only the cargo dimensions and particulars, but also how it is packed, lashed, and secured. Misdeclarations can result in terminal refusals, cargo shut-outs, delays, and significant additional costs.

Important points to consider when placing an OOG booking

01
Define IG or OOG

If any cargo dimension exceeds the values in the specs table, it must be formally declared as Out of Gauge. Always verify against the table before booking.

02
End Wall Position

End walls can be positioned either up or down and must be declared accordingly. An incorrect end wall declaration can significantly alter the overall cargo profile.

03
Accurate Weight

Always provide the verified gross weight of the cargo. Underweighted declarations risk structural damage to the flat rack and create serious port safety hazards.

04
Lashing Protrusions

Any lashing or securing equipment protruding beyond the cargo boundary must be included in declared dimensions. These are frequently overlooked and cause misdeclarations.

05
Cargo Shifting Risk

Inadequately secured cargo can shift during transit due to vessel motion and weather — changing the effective dimensions mid-voyage and creating safety hazards.

06
Extra Materials

Crates, timber dunnage, and lashing materials used during securing change the total cargo dimensions. Include all materials in your final declaration.

07
Safety First

Correct declarations protect everyone who handles your cargo — from crane operators to vessel crew. Any terminal can refuse loading if dimensions don't match the declaration.

08
Operational Efficiency

Dimension discrepancies at gate-in or during transit trigger operational challenges, cargo shut-outs, and slot replanning — all avoidable with accurate upfront declarations.

Importance of the OOG Declaration Process

The objective of the Out of Gauge declaration process is, first and foremost, to ensure the safety of every crew member and terminal handler managing your cargo. It also serves to minimise operational challenges arising from dimension mismatches, which can cascade into costly delays across the entire supply chain.

Safety First
  • Knowing actual cargo dimensions prevents accidents during loading, lashing, and vessel transit
  • Any terminal can refuse to load cargo as a safety precaution if declared dimensions do not match
Operational Efficiency
  • Dimension discrepancies at gate-in or during transit create disruption in cargo slot planning
  • Mismatched dimensions can trigger cargo shut-outs and missed sailing windows
Cost Implications of Misdeclared Cargo
  • Re-inspection and re-measurement fees at origin terminal
  • Port surcharges and overtime for remediation of incorrect bookings
  • Demurrage and detention charges while discrepancies are resolved
  • Cargo damage costs if shifting occurs during transit due to improper lashing
